Just a note on this subject... I was homeschooled from 7th to 12th grades. The summer between 11th & 12th, my mom offered to let me go to school my senior year so I could "graduate with a class" ... and I said NO WAY!!! As a homeschooled kid, there are so many advantages to homeschooling that it really isn't a choice, IMO. We had friends at church, and occasionally in the neighborhood (but usually only at church) and my parents' friends usually had kids that we got to be around at times. We never lacked for friends, though they were often much older or much younger :)

Hi Kathryn, Enjoyed reading the blog. Thanks for the kind words. I am sure that you know as a writer it is always nice to hear good things from your readers. Feel free to give me a holler if you enter into the self doubt zone again - as I said, my kids are all grown, having survived our homeschool adventures (and my mistakes) with flying colors. So I can truly say that homeschooling works very well! :-)

I have these same fears from time to time. I realize that there is so much my children have gained from learning at home, but I always question if there is some great friendship they have missed out on. I have to pray about things again, and I am ready to continue in our path of home education. Good article.

I think all of us who choose to school at home has this worry from time to time. Am I doing enough? Am I doing everything right? But for us, it has come down am I giving my children the education that the Good Lord wants them to have. I enjoyed your article.

I couldn't understand some parts of this article Some Homeschool Definitions, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

This is a great article. I love your comment on Homeschooling being more of an art than a science. That is so true. There are as many ways to Homeschool as there are Homeschoolers.

We also find that understanding how a curriculum was designed to be used is also helpful. Some curriculums were designed for independant learning whereas others where written with a teacher in mind. Knowing this helps the parent determine how much time is going to be spent teaching the material.

With some curriculums, the success or failure of that curriculum choice is determined upon our ability as parents to commit the time necessary to teach and administrate it.

Well, I guess the only part of our curriculum that I wouldn't want to live without is Tapestry of Grace at www.lampstandpress.com. I think it is similar to Sonlight in that it is literature rich which I find works best for our family. It isn't for everyone, but it is what is best for us. We have also found that for our family Math-U-See works best as our math curriculum. Happy Curriculum Hunting!!!!
